A tourniquet is a life-saving device wrapped around an arm or leg to stop severe, life-threatening bleeding by compressing blood vessels. Primarily used in emergency trauma (e.g., amputations, accidents) or in surgery to create a bloodless field, it is placed 2–3 inches above the wound.
