RJ45 (Registered Jack 45) is an 8-pin modular connector commonly used for Ethernet networking. It connects computers, routers, switches, and other devices using Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat7 twisted-pair cables. Each connector has 8 metal contacts (pins), allowing for 8 conductors (4 twisted pairs) to transmit data. RJ45 connectors are used in LAN cables (Ethernet cables), typically with T568A or T568B wiring standards. Made of clear plastic (usually polycarbonate), many versions also have gold-plated contacts for better conductivity and corrosion resistance.
