A gas spring is a self-contained, energy-storing device that uses pressurized nitrogen gas within a sealed cylinder to provide a controlled, smooth, and cushioned force. It consists of a steel cylinder containing pressurized gas and a sliding piston rod that moves in and out of the cylinder. When the rod is compressed, it pushes the piston, compressing the gas and storing potential energy, which is released upon extension. They are used to lift, support, or counter-balance heavy objects in applications ranging from car hoods and furniture to industrial machinery and medical equipment.
